Learn to SCUBA dive Course format

Day One

  • Registration
  • Fill in paperwork, Medical, photos etc.
  • Organise wetsuit and fin sizing Knowledge review (Module 1)

Theory Session 1

Knowledge review (Module 1)

  • The underwater world
  • Effects of buoyancy
  • Pressure, Volume and Density relationships
  • Effects of increasing pressure
  • Equalisation techniques
  • Buddy system procedures

Equipment introductions

  • Masks, snorkels, fins,
  • Buoyancy control devices
  • Scuba tanks and valves
  • Air delivery systems (Regulators)
  • Submersible pressure gauges
  • Quiz 1

Theory Session 2

Knowledge review (Module 2)

  • Adapting to the underwater world
  • Vision, sound and motion in water.
  • Respiration, breathing efficiency, overexertion.
  • Buddy system procedures
  • Hand signals and communicating underwater.

Equipment introductions

  • Wetsuits, hoods, gloves and boots
  • Weight belts
  • Alternate air sources
  • Knives / Tools
  • Gear bags
  • Dive instruments

Theory Session 3

Knowledge review (Module 3)

  • The dive environment
  • Temperature, visibility, currents and bottom composition.
  • Interaction with marine life
  • Aquatic animals, aquatic plants, sunlight.
  • Diving in freshwater and salt water environments.
  • Overhead environments.
  • Dive planning.
  • Boat diving.
  • Problem management

Lunch break

Pool Session 1
  • Assembling scuba gear
  • Breathing underwater for the very first time
  • Regulator clearing
  • Regulator recovery
  • Mask clearing

Pool Session 2

  • Pre dive safety checks
  • Water entries
  • Using a snorkel
  • Snorkel & regulator exchanges
  • Proper descents
  • No mask breathing
  • Mask replacement
  • Low pressure inflator uses
  • Proper weighting
  • Air depletion exercises
  • Ascents and deep water exits
  • Skill drill.

Pool Session 3

  • Fin pivots,
  • Neutral buoyancy swimming
  • Cramp removal
  • Tired diver tows
  • Air depletion exercises
  • Free flow breathing
  • Controlled emergency swimming ascents
  • Skill drill.

Day Two

Open Water Dive One

  • Briefing and equipment preparation
  • Pre dive safety checks
  • Entry
  • Buoyancy check
  • Controlled descent
  • Underwater exploration of the bays' sandy floor and the reef walls.
  • Debrief and log dive in personal Dive Log book.

Pool Session 4

  • Skin diving
  • Snorkel clearing exercises
  • Hyperventilation skills
  • No mask swimming
  • Hovering
  • Skill drill.

Pool Session 5

  • Weight belt removal and recovery
  • Scuba unit handling
  • Final skill reviews

  • Breathing air at depth
  • Nitrogen narcosis
  • Decompression illness
  • Dive computors

Theory Session 5

Knowledge review (Module 5)

  • Flying after diving
  • Decompression theory
  • Final Quiz

Day Three

Open Water Dive Two

  • Briefing and equipment preparation
  • Pre dive safety checks
  • Cramp removals
  • Tired diver tows
  • Fin pivoting
  • Mask partial flood and clear
  • Regulator recovery and clearing
  • Alternate air source use
  • Further underwater exploration of reef walls
  • Debrief and log dive in personal Dive Log book.

Open water Dive Three

  • Pre dive safety checks
  • Surface swim with compass,
  • Free descents with reference
  • Oral fin pivots
  • Complete flood and clear mask
  • Controlled emergency swimming ascents
  • Remove and replace scuba unit at surface
  • Remove and replace Weight belt at surface.
  • Further explore bays floor and reef system
  • Debrief and log dive in personal Dive Log book.
Open water Dive Four
  • Briefing and equipment preparation
  • Pre dive safety checks.
  • Free descent without reference
  • Hovering
  • Mask removal and replacement
  • Underwater compass navigation
  • Underwater exploration
  • Debrief and log dive in personal Dive Log book

Day Four

  • After you have completed your Learn to dive course, a single or double boat dive will be offered to you at a greatly reduced rate. Should you wish to further explore underwater with your new dive buddies to a maximum depth of 18m.
  • All scuba hire equipment will be supplied.

* Course Standards will be adhered to at all times.
* Open Water programs do not include boat dive(s).
