Munchkin Reef

If storytellers could become divers then they would definitely write a story about Munchkin reef, imagine a story book picture with small toadstool houses, little streets and forests of trees.

This is Munchkin reef....  munchkin reef

Here you will see Weedy Sea Dragons, Hermit crabs, narrow ledges hiding large Wobbies, Moray eels, Blue Devil fish, curious octopus and Purple dragons.

The sponge Cymbastella and filter feeders Pyura are all around. Great big yellow wall sponges, Cabbage Bryozoans and fragile Lace Bryozoans are scattered all about this reef.

Weedy sea dragons are to be found at this sight hovering in the kelp beds, Gorgonian fans sway in the slight current and cabbage Bryozoans spread their tumbled crests around to trap food.

Vermilion Biscuit stars, Many armed seastars and Fire bricks also call this site home.

You will also find several different species of pelagics swimming along the shallow sandstone ledges.

Only a short boat ride from the ramp at Terrigal and a delight to just sit and watch what swims by for the entire dive.Munchkin is always a favourite dive for many people and we are now in the process of constructing an underwater trail for future divers enjoyment, as this site has so much to offer.

Divers do not realise the diversity of Munchkin and find many different areas to enjoy at different times of the year.

Depths range from 12 to 18 metres.
